The Horse has always seen himself as the leader of the herd. That is, if he is with other geldings The Horse quickly establishes himself as top horse. Despite spooking at everything and anything; loud noises, unexpected objects, other animals taking flight, The Horse is very certain he is the best leader around.
He primarily shares a paddock with one other horse. At the time of this tale he was sharing with his best friend, Billy. Before taking The Horse to the field one day I was informed that they had another pony sharing with them for a couple of weeks. Understandably, The Horse was unaware of this.
“Come on, Horse, let’s go to the field.”
“Alright, I’m coming.”
“A bit faster, Horse. Don’t you want to go out? It’s the big field with the good grass.”
“Can I just eat the grass here?”
“No, this is just a verge. Come on.”
“Fine. This better be worth it.”
We finally get to the field, with a lot of stopping and starting along the way. Billy is waiting eagerly for his best friend as we approach. The Horse and I do the gate maneuver dance.
“Go that way, Horse.”
“This way?”
No, I’m holding the electric fence there.”
“Oh, how about here?”
“No, that’s the fence. Over here.”
“Ah! Theres a gap here!”
“Yes! That way. Now spin ’round so I can close the gate.”
And once inside I release The Horse from his head collar.
“Where’s my biscuit?”
Then give him his token treat (cos he’s a good boy).
I leave him to settle in and greet/ reassert his dominance with Billy, but can’t help stand and watch for a bit.
The Horse wanders across the field, scouting for the perfect patch of grass to munch on when suddenly his attention is caught.
“What is that!?” He’s at his most giraffe and most curious. Nothing will deter him.
“There is a grey object in my field. What is it?”
The grey object doesn’t move. The Horse tentatively moves closer, all prey.
“It’s a… It’s a… What is it? It isn’t doing anything. Maybe it’s just a new feature of the field? It doesn’t seem to be doing anything. Maybe if I eat it’ll go away.” He barely grabs a bite before the grey object moves.
“Woah!? What is that…?! IT’S A HORSE!” He puffs up his chest and becomes the biggest giraffe he can. Marching over to the pony he’s clearly preparing to… do something. I watch, hoping he’ll be nice to the additional pony in his field.
“You! Who are you?”
“I’m eating grass.”
“Oi! I’m talking to you.”
“Hi.”
“Why are you in my field?”
“I’m eating, leave me alone.”
“You know I’m in charge here, right?”
“Go away.”
The Horse whips his tail and raises a threatening back leg. “I AM In Charge HERE!”
“Yeah yeah, whatever. Let me eat.”
Looking a little put out The Horse leaves the new pony alone to return to his best friend. “He won’t listen to me, Billy. He barely even looked at me.”
“Does that mean I can be top horse now?”
“NO! I’m Still ToP HOrse HeRe!”
“Ok Ok!”
With hardly a glance at the new member of their small herd, The Horse finally starts to eat.
I shake my head and smile.
Silly Horse.
P.S.
A few days later The Horse could be found in the mornings sleeping near the new pony. Turns out they get on very well.

Nice blog right here! Also your site rather a lot up fast! What host are you the usage of? Can I am getting your associate link on your host? I want my site loaded up as fast as yours lol
Thanks. I just thought it was best to establish the idea of my blog straight away. I will probably slow down the number of posts in future. I don’t know what you mean by ‘host’ though. I’m new to blogging so don’t know the lingo.
I’m no longer certain the place you are getting your info, however good topic. I needs to spend a while finding out much more or working out more. Thank you for fantastic info I used to be in search of this info for my mission.
You can certainly see your enthusiasm in the paintings you write. The world hopes for even more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to mention how they believe. At all times follow your heart.
Thanks for the appreciation. It’s taken me a long time to be brave enough to write these stories, and I’m so glad I have done it.
