I filled up the bath, nice and hot – perhaps a bit too hot, but wanted it to last – The Kitten recognised this new opponent and immediately decided to tackle it.

The Kitten, hopping up onto the edge “What is this?”

“A bath Kitten, you need to be careful.” I replied.

“What is ‘bath’?”

“It is wet and hot, you need to be careful.”

“But what is ‘bath’?”

Despite my gentle warning, The Kitten was adamant that he should investigate further. He walked around the edge of the bath, sniffing the water and watching the bubbles with curiosity. For a 3 month old kitten, he did a reasonable job of navigating the narrow edge. But he just had to go one step further and decided to skirt along the edge closest to the wall.

“Kitten, you’re going to fall.” I warned.

“I just want to get a little bit closer.”

“You won’t fit and it’s slippy.”

“I can do it, watch meeeeeee!” SPLASH! The Kitten hit the water, eyes wild and legs flailing. In a flash he shot out again looking a half soggy and skinny from hiw his fluffy coat now stuck to his body.

Crying with laughter I went to check on The Kitten, who was now licking the water off of himself.

“I did tell you you’d fall.”

The Kitten just looked unimpressed as he contnued licking.

Once I was sure he was unharmed from the hot water, I finally got into the bath myself. But after his shocking experience, The Kitten was on guard. His little face kept appearing over the edge as he observed my crazy behaviour. Finally he settled down on the bath mat as my personal lifeguard and ever since, whenever I have a bath The Kitten will eventually curl up on the bath mat to keep a keen on me and my strange human behaviour.
