As many people are likely aware, the UK experienced extreme, extended heat this summer. This resulted in a drought across much of the country.

When it finally rained for even a short while it was a relief and a sign of things returning to normal.

But with rain comes puddles, some of which were not evaporated by the returning sun as rapidly as others.

When taking The Pony out for a ride we encountered one of these long-since forgotten puddles, which I almost missed, if not for The Pony reacting.

“What is that?!”

“I don’t know Pony, what are you looking at?”

“That! Right there on the floor! What is it?!”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about, you’re fine.”

“It’s suspicious and THERE’S SOMETHING IN IT!!!” The Pony shot in the air as he spotted his reflection in the puddle, terrified it was something dangerous. As soon as his hooves hit the ground he continued walking on as though nothing had happened.

“What was that Pony?! You scared me!”

“What was what?”

“That jump! It felt like you nearly jumped out of your own skin!”

“Oh that… It was nothing. Just a puddle.”

I laughed at him and patted his withers. “Silly Pony.”
