My hands were full. I was carrying so much I had to frequently save items as they tried to escape the mound. Rugs, feeds, solutions, all for the damn Horse.

I get to his room and manage to open the door to greet The Horse. Normally he stays in his room, he doesn’t normally need a chain or door. He seemed to be in a good mood so I left the door open, he’ll stay.

It’s important to note that two weeks before The Horse had moved into a new room. His old room, directly across from his new one, had a massive window that he enjoyed looking out of when the weather allowed it to be open.

But I digress…

I left The Horse at the entrance to his open room to deposit the many items I carried in the tack room. Arriving I realised I forgot the key to my locker. Giving up I dropped everything on the floor and walked back down the barn…to find The Horse out of his room. More specifically he was stood by the small window next to his room, gazing out of it like he was in a scene from Wuthering Heights, the breeze blowing through his mane, his silhouette majestic in the morning light.

“Horse.” I kept walking, I still needed that key. “Get back in your room.”

He glanced over his shoulder at me “Alright I’m going.”

With The Horse back in his room I got my key and returned to the tack room to tidy the mess I had left. It didn’t take long but once again on emerging I found the The Horse out of his stable. This time however he had abandoned his Heathcliff dreams and instead followed the calls of his stomach. He was trying to break into the feed bins the next stable down.

“Horse!” I was a little bit annoyed now.

“What?”

“Horse! Get back to your room!”

“I’m just gonna…”

“Now!” I wave my arms at him, exasperated with his behaviour.

“Hey! You don’t need to be so mean!”

“GO.”

Realising how unimpressed I was The Horse suddenly spins around to head back to his stable. His OLD stable.

“Ok I’m going, I’m going! I’m nearly there…ahh! What!? How do I get in? Someone’s in my room! Help!”

I can’t help but laugh “Horse,” I gently pole his bottom, getting his attention. “Your room is over here.”

He spins again “I knew that!” And nearly runs inside.

“I think I’ll put the chain across, don’t you?”

“Whatever, I’m not going out ever again.”

I smile with amusement.

Silly Horse.
