The wind was howling; the rain was pouring, and the little window by The Horse’s room was letting too much of it in. His rugs were getting wet which was far from ideal. After moving some sheet metal over the window for protection from the elements, I finally focused on The Horse who had only one thing on his mind. Food. He had a nice, fat hay net in his stable, and there was a nice, fat hay net outside his stable that was meant to be his dinner for that night. Guess which one he was trying to eat…

There were several factors however, preventing him from eating the hay outside; one, the chain across his door prevents The Horse from leaving his room; two, it was just out of reach; three, as much as he tries to be, he is NOT a giraffe.

“Horse, I need to take your rugs off, can you step back please?”

“Can’t…quite…reach…”

“Horse! Back!”

“Yeah yeah alright.” One step back. Just enough space to undo the straps then he’s back at the hay again.

I whip his top rug off (it was a freezing night, he needed the layers) and realise that if I hang it outside of the stable it might get wet. Hmmm… I’ll throw it over the partition bars. It’s high though, which means I’ll need to throw the rugs quite hard.

“Hey Horse.”

“So…very…close!”

“Horse I’m gonna chuck these rugs up there. Is that ok?”

“Just one more inch! I can feel it on my lip!”

“Humph…fine. I’m doing it anyway.”

A minute later…

“Horse, back up I need to brush your face.”

“I’ve nearly got it! If I just stretch a little more…”

“Horse, I need your face. Back!”

“Ok, ok I’m doing it. What do even want? Oh that again. Always brushing my face! I don’t even need it today, see! No mud! Now can I get back to…OMG WTF IS THAT! OMG! RUN AWAY! Wait. I can’t, I’m in a stable! Help! What IS IT!?”

“Horse…”

“What are those…?”

“You mean your rugs? That I told you I was putting there?”

“Oh hey, they’re my rugs. Speaking of hay, look what I just found in my stable!”

I shake my head with dismay.

Stupid Horse.
